His & Hers by Alice Feeney — 5-Star Review (Spoiler-Free)

I devoured His & Hers. Not “I read a few chapters before bed” devoured—more like look up and suddenly it’s two hours later devoured. This is the kind of thriller that makes you cancel plans because you need to know what’s really going on.

At the center of the story is a crime that pulls you into a familiar place with an uncomfortable vibe: small-town connections, messy history, and the kind of atmosphere where everyone knows everyone… which means everyone also knows what to hide. The book is told through dual POVs—his and hers—and that’s where the addiction kicks in. Because you’re not just reading two sides of a story. You’re reading two versions of the truth, and both feel… selective.

Why I gave it 5 stars

The pacing is absolutely relentless. Chapters are short, punchy, and built to end on that little hook that tricks you into saying “one more” (and then you’re 80 pages deeper). But what really makes this one work is the way it plays with perspective. Every time I settled into a theory, the story shifted just enough to make me doubt it. And honestly? I love a thriller that makes me feel slightly unhinged.

The tension in this book is a slow squeeze. It’s not constant action—it’s suspicion. It’s unease. It’s that creeping feeling that someone is controlling the narrative and you’re just trying to catch up. Both narrators are compelling, but neither feels fully reliable, and I mean that as the highest compliment. This book understands that secrets aren’t just plot devices—they’re character. Everyone is shaped by what they’re hiding.

And the twists? They hit hard, but they don’t feel like random shock value. It’s more like the book lays out puzzle pieces in plain sight and you don’t realize what they are until it’s too late. When the reveals started coming, I kept having those moments where you flip back mentally like… wait, that line earlier—OH.

The ending is the kind that makes you shut the book and stare at the wall for a second. Not because it’s confusing, but because it lands.

What it feels like (vibes)

If you’re a vibes reader, here’s the energy:

  • Unreliable narrators

  • Dual POV tension

  • Small-town secrets

  • Everyone knows too much

  • Journalism / investigation angle

  • “Wait… WHAT?” reveals

  • Quick chapters, high suspense, easy binge-read

Who should read it

If you love thrillers that are:

  • fast-paced but still character-driven

  • twisty without being ridiculous

  • tense in a “I don’t trust anyone” way

…you’ll probably eat this up.

This one especially works if you like books where the truth keeps shifting, the narrators feel a little too confident in their version of events, and you’re left trying to decide who’s lying… and who’s lying better.

Final thoughts

His & Hers was a full-body reading experience for me—bingeable, tense, and just plain fun in that dark, twisty way. It’s one of those thrillers that reminds me why I love the genre: the suspicion, the pacing, the “I have to know,” and the moment when everything clicks and you realize the book has been ahead of you the whole time.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5 stars — no notes)
