From the very first chapter, I was pulled into Richard’s unsettling world. After losing his parents in a fire, Richard moves in with his aunt and uncle in a small town. But his arrival doesn’t go smoothly. He’s the outsider, and when two classmates disappear under eerie circumstances — with Richard as the last person to see them alive — suspicion falls squarely on him.
But here’s the twist: The Night House doesn’t just play out as a simple missing persons thriller. Jo Nesbø crafts a story where reality bends, horror elements creep in, and the line between truth and imagination is constantly blurred. Phones seem to swallow people whole, shadows move where they shouldn’t, and the forest surrounding the town feels alive with secrets.
